Phuket erstreckt sich über rund fünfzig Kilometer von Nord nach Süd, und wo Sie sich einquartieren, prägt die Reise stärker als die Wahl des Hotels. An der Westküste liegen die Strände: Patong am belebten Ende, Karon und Kata weiter und ruhiger, dann Kamala, Surin und Bang Tao Richtung Norden im Resortgürtel. Die Ostseite ist die arbeitende Insel, mit Phuket-Stadt, dem Fährpier Rassada und den Marinas. Im Süden tragen Rawai und Chalong die Langzeitgemeinde, die Tauchbasen und die Bootsanleger.
