It is one of the least developed inhabited parts of the island's east coast, with forested slopes and a series of small coves rather than a continuous beach.
The Phuket Marine Biological Centre and its public aquarium sit at the tip of the cape, along with the Panwa viewpoint over the Racha and Coral island channel. Several long-established resorts occupy private coves along the western shore, with Ao Yon beach being the main public swimming spot. Khao Khad viewpoint on the ridge gives one of the widest panoramas on the island.
The area has a working side too: the deep-sea port handles cruise calls and cargo, and the Ao Makham shoreline carries marine services and boatyards. Restaurants are mostly resort kitchens plus a scattering of local seafood rooms at Ao Yon and along the Sakdidet road. Phuket Town is around fifteen minutes north.
